The Pechoti Method.

Y’all ready for one of my favorite and super simple wellness tips?!

I must know— how many of you have heard of the Pechoti Intake Method?!

The Pechoti gland is behind the belly button. During pregnancy, the umbilical cord carries nutrients from mama to her baby, through a connection made with the Pechoti gland. After the umbilical cord is cut, the Pechoti gland remains and has over 72,000 veins and millions of nerves connecting to tissues and organs throughout the body.

It sits over your intestines, major lymph nodes and blood vessels, AND it’s near your vagus nerve—(which you guys have seen me post about in the past! This incredible nerve controls your parasympathetic nervous system and sends signals directly from your gut to your brain! )

Unlike the rest of your abdomen, there’s little to no muscle behind your navel, which makes it the perfect access point to your belly.

Although it’s not a very common practice in the States, (and is slightly controversial since there are no studies backing it!) the Pechoti method has been widely utilized since ancient times in many cultures around the globe.

In the Ayurvedic text, it’s even said that your belly button can detect which veins have dried up and use the oils to open them up! Many people have been applying different oils to the belly button to get multiple health benefits for thousands of years!

Applying oil to the naval to be absorbed by the Pechoti gland has been used to treat everything from dry eyes and poor eyesight to menstrual pain, joint pains, lethargy, gastrointestinal issues and much more.

I love this quote from traditional naturopath and registered master herbalist Dr. Lakisha Jenkins:

“When you’re formed as a human all of your nutrition is going through your belly button. That’s your source of nutrition from the time you begin to develop, so why can’t it be the rest of your life?”

You can use this method for different essential oils, herbs, tinctures, oils, supplements and CBD/hemp oils.

Our family takes several of our daily supplements using this method—

  • Our daily dose of iodine drops

  • Black seed oil or oregano oil during times of sickness or infection, constipation or digestive distress (which is nice because BSO is not pleasant tasting )

  • any supplement or herb in liquid form like echinacea, lysine, (this is super helpful for little ones when it’s difficult to get them to take things that don’t taste great!)

  • Assortment of essential oils as needed for antibacterial, antiviral, infection, emotions/stress, digestion issues

  • My daily progesterone drops

  • Magnesium oil

  • And our hemp oil!

Because the gut contains many cannabinoid receptors, when hemp oil is applied to the belly button, the cannabinoids have the ability to reach every part of your body. This is something that no other delivery method can provide!

Drop a few drops in and an inch or so around your belly button, and gently massage in! That’s it!

We LOVE this super simple way of taking herbs/supplements and have seen it work successfully many times over the years!

And hey— modern science took THOUSANDS of years to catch up with natural healing when it came to gut health, so maybe one day this will be mainstream as well?!
