Summer Tips
How to avoid both toxins AND sunburns!
Are you more afraid of the sun than you are the toxins in sunscreen?
Or is the sun scarier to you than having a vitamin D deficiency?
Considering the recent recall on many major brands of sunscreen for having the presence of the toxin, benzene- (only one of the most studied carcinogens known to science!)…..
My answer is OBVI the SUNSCREEN.
That people don’t know and understand that our bodies were DESIGNED to be in the sun just blows my mind!
So my next answer is OBVI the vitamin D deficiency!
We currently have a vitamin D DEFICIENCY in America, and avoiding the sun is the LAST thing you should do! I will tell you what to avoid though, and that is any and all toxic sunscreens.
☠️ Skin cancer rates have increased over 500% in the last 30 years!
☠️Over 40% of sunscreens were proven to actually CONTRIBUTE to causing skin cancer!
☠️96% of the population has oxybenzone in their bodies, and that is a KNOWN endocrine disrupter! It causes low sperm count in men and endometriosis in women.
☠️Most sunscreens are toxic in one way or another, even those with nano zinc and titanium dioxide, and mutate the way your body receives the sun's rays, so it's best to treat your body from the inside out.
Don't freak out on me, there are several other safer alternatives I will talk about later, but what I want to talk to you about now is PREVENTION.
Given that the skin is the largest organ of the body, it is also the first line of defense against sickness! So keeping it healthy is CRUCIAL!
📚Sunburn is caused by oxidative stress, which is an over-accumulation of free radicals that put stress on skin cells. Free radicals attack your organs and cells, which also break down the elastin and collagen in our skin. This process leads to sunburn and skin aging (think wrinkles, sun spots and saggy skin) and the development of non-melanoma skin cancer.
Combatting this internally is much easier than you would think!
Antioxidants attack free radicals, so all foods high in antioxidants are super helpful in prevention!
☀️Remove ALL polyunsaturated fats (soy, canola, corn, flax, vegetable, etc) from your diet and replace with coconut oil, butter, ghee, avocado or olive. All other oils and fats (even fish oil supplements) oxidize quickly in the body and create free radicals. They’re in EVERYTHING so you have to be aware!
☀️Vitamin E: specifically Annatto tocotrienols: The average human body consists of over 37 trillion cells, and each one of those cells needs antioxidant protection. Vitamin E is the main antioxidant found in cell walls, and is perfectly shaped to protect the cell walls’ lipids from oxidation. It has also been proven to suppress skin cancer, and protect skin from UV exposure.
☀️Polyphenols like resveratrol, and superfoods like wild blueberries, gogi, açaí, noni, pitaya, are also amazing antioxidants that fight free radicals, and adding aloe internally dramatically helps the absorption and assimilation of these nutrients.
☀️Because vitamin C is such a potent antioxidant, you can use it to prevent sunburn. Take between 10-20 grams (depending on age!) the day before exposure AND the day of, and you will NOT get a burn! This will work on any skin tone, and even if you’re in direct sun all day! We have successfully done this more than once, even with our freckled, light-skinned kiddo! You MUST make sure you’re taking enough- and when doing vitamin C therapy it takes a lot!
☀️Collagen rejuvenates our skin by repairing damage, improving skin firmness, dryness, and elasticity! Another reason to have access to an amazing collagen supplement!
When your body is balanced and being fed the nutrients it NEEDS, it can easily handle the sun!!!
🍒🍇🍓🥥Juicing the colors of the rainbow daily is an excellent way to get plenty of antioxidants in, (think all of your berries, tropical fruits, green leafy veggies) drinking organic teas, and consuming healthy fats like coconut oil or avocados internally and externally are beneficial.
This is also extremely important --- you absolutely must avoid JUNK!🍕🍔🍟🍭🍪🍩
Processed grains, sugars, and vegetable oils create free radicals in the body and nutritional deficiencies. You cannot break down your body's defense, burden it with toxins, and then expect it to function correctly!
Here is an awesome list of safer sunscreens

👉🏼Or you can make your own with 1-2 cup coconut oil, 5 drops of carrot seed oil, 5 drops myrrh, 20 drops lavender for sun protection.
If you are dealing with a sunburn:
💦drink SEVERAL glasses of water with electrolytes to rehydrate from the inside out
⚡️take cantharis 30c (mentioned in this post for burns https://www.rikkijames.com/blog/remediesforinjuries
💨spray silver over the burn or use silver gel
🌱Besides taking tocotrienols internally, you can use it directly on a burn! You will heal quicker by reducing inflammation and boosting immune response, as well as it being proven to reduce the signs of aging by countering oxidative stress caused by sun damage, and can reduce hyperpigmentation!
🥥Mix a few drops of lavender mix in body cream, pure aloe Vera or virgin coconut oil to soothe and take the burn out quickly. Vitamin C serum also helps stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, protect the skin from environmental pollutants, reduce skin discolorations, and protect or help heal the skin from damaging UV exposure.
Another fun little summer tip:🌈
Lots of kiddos are getting sick after being in chlorinated swimming pools. The effect chlorine has on your gut and immune system is is similar to that of antibiotics. 70-80% of your immune system is in your gut, and when chlorine kills off your good bacteria, it leaves you susceptible to sickness! It also depletes your iodine stores, as chlorine is on the same periodic table as iodine, and your body is tricked into storing it like it would iodine.
This is another reason we eat clean, and balance even further with high quality supplements that are from raw, whole food sources. Replenishing prebiotics, , digestive enzymes, trace minerals, iodine and address our health from a CELLULAR level!
